Flash Ajax Video (FAVideo) Component
Many students of advanced Web design have wanted a lightweight yet powerful way of playing videos on a Web page. The Flash Ajax Video (FAVideo) Component is the answer. It places onto your HTML page a video window with powerful controls for user interaction. You can easily create links that change the source of the video without causing any visible glitches onscreen. JavaScript authors can use the FAVideo API to create more advanced interactions.
One limitiation of the FAVideo component is that your video must be in the Flash Video (FLV) format. Flash comes with a utility called the Flash Video Encoder that you can use to create FLV versions of movies you want to use in the FAVideo component.
Simple FAVideo Example
The following video is the example movie that comes with the FAVideo component.
Switch Video FAVideo Example
The following FAVideo example lets you choose the video to view. When you click the links to play the different video, notice how the FAVideo component stays on screen without refreshing or flickering when the video changes. The seamless operation of the FAVideo component is one of its most attractive attributes.
FAVideo Application Programming Interface (API)
Displayed below is a more complex example of the Flash-Ajax Video (FAVideo) component. If you click the option to show the events, and then click the movie controls, you will see the messages that are part of the FAVideo component's application programming interface (API). Notice that these messages are appearing in plain text on this HTML page. JavaScript programmers can use these messages to create more complex video interactions on an HTML page.
