HTML special characters

• On Unix the extended ascii codes in this document were entered using the compose key. To compose two characters start with the compose key and then the two characters in either order. On some keyboards the compose key will be lit to indicate the next two characters will be composed.
• On Macs you can get many of these with the option key. Accents are usually done with a multi-key sequence. For example grave accents are always started with option` followed by the character to be accented. The 8 bit characters in this document where typed using NCSA Telnet, with the translation is set to ISO-8859-1, and the font set to proFontWWW. (To get the codes labeled "Unofficial" you must use a font such as ProFontWWW.)
• On Windows '95 you can use the same number as the html entity preceded by ALT-0. For example, type 0198 with the ALT key held down for the AE ligature. Use the numeric pad with the numeric lock since the numbers on the keyboard do not seem to work for this ALT sequence. (This ALT sequence does not work for me in tnvt or wtnvt - 21-Dec 1997)
