Getting to the Conference


The University of Delaware is located in Newark, DE, 12 miles south of Wilmington, DE, directly on I-95—roughly halfway between New York and Washington, DC.

Air
Philadelphia International (PHL) is the nearest airport, about a 40-minute drive from Newark, DE. All terminals are served by the SEPTA R1 Airport Line, making it possible to travel to Wilmington, DE and Newark, DE by train, but see below.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is a 90-minute drive to the south. Note that there is no shuttle service between BWI and any point in Delaware. It is possible to take an Amtrak train from the BWI Airport rail station to Wilmington, DE and to Newark, DE, but see below.

Amtrak, the national rail network, serves Wilmington, DE and Newark, DE. Wilmington is a major stop on the Northeast Corridor between Bosotn and Washington, DC, with frequent trains. Service to Newark, DE is, however, limited to a single train per day in each direction.

SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority)

Local R2 Wilmington/Newark Line service between Philadelphia, Wilmington, DE and Newark, DE, with connection at University City to the R1 Airport Line termianting at Philadelphia International Airport. This commuter rail system provides several morning and late afternoon/evening trains, Monday–Friday, between Philadelphia central city and Newark, DE; there is additional service, Monday–Saturday, between Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE.
Important note: While the Newark, DE station is within walking distance (if you have light luggage) of the University of Delaware Library and the Embassy Suites and the Sleep Inn hotels, no taxis or local buses are available.

State of Delaware-operated bus system, with routes connecting Wilmington, DE and Newark, DE. Several buses stop on or near the University of Delaware campus. Note that you may have to chage buses in Rodney Square in Wilmington or at the Newark Transit Hub and that service is severely reduced at night and on weekends.
