Principal Investigator: Dr. Nancy C. Jordan Dr. Jordan is a professor in the Special Education and Cognition, Development, and Instruction programs in the School of Education. She completed her doctorate in Education at Harvard and did post-doctoral work at the University of Chicago. Her research interests are in cognitive development and learning disabilities. Dr. Jordan's current program of research focuses on the development of mathematical competencies in children and on learning disabilities in mathematics. She has published articles on these topics in Developmental Psychology, the Journal of Learning Disabilities, and the Journal of Educational Psychology. She is also interested in psychoeducational assessment and reading disorders. Dr. Jordan teaches classes in Educational Diagnosis and Special Education. ********************************************************************************************* | |

Co-Investigator: Dr. David Kaplan Dr. Kaplan received his Ph.D. in education from UCLA in 1987. He is a professor of Quantitative Methods in the Department of Educational Psychology, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is author of Structural Equation Modeling: Foundations and Extensions (Sage Publications, 2000) and is the editor of The Sage Handbook of Quantitative Methodology for the Social Sciences (Sage Publications, 2004). Dr. Kaplan's current program of research focuses on the problem of "exogeneity" in linear statistical models. The weak form of exogeneity concerns the consequences of assuming that marginal information in predictor variables can be ignored for the purpose of estimation of conditional relationships. Other forms of exogeneity that rest on this weak form include strong exogeneity and super exogeneity. Dr. Kaplan's program of research is to develop and adapt these exogeneity assumptions to statistical methods commonly employed in education and the social and behavioral sciences. The exogeneity assumption also has immediate consequences for the problem of causal inference in experimental and observational studies. Thus, a second line of investigation concerns the connection of the exogeneity assumptions to methodological questions of causal inference. ******************************************************************************************** | |
