The goal of the HHMI Undergraduate Biological Sciences Education Program at the University of Delaware is to challenge students to become independent thinkers and creative problem solvers by stimulating their attitudes of inquiry. This initiative proceeds on several fronts including the sponsorship of an extensive undergraduate research program, implementation investigative teaching laboratories, the NUCLEUS Program for underrepresented minorities,  mentoring of peer facilitators in problem-based learning courses, and promoting a faculty development seminar program.

Thinkers are not limited by what they know, because they can always increase what they know. Rather they're limited by what puzzles them, because there's no way to become curious about something that doesn't puzzle you.              Daniel Quinn (1997)
