24-28 March 2004, Erlangen, Germany
Information

2. Traveling
to Erlangen
Travel by airplane and/or
train
Erlangen may be reached most easily via the nearby Nuremberg airport
(ca. 15 km) (http://www.airport-nuernberg.de).
Please note:
A pick-up service at Nuremberg airport will be
available to bring you directly to the hotel. Please let us know your arrival
time, your flight number and the the airline you are
traveling with.
Munich airport is ca. 160 km south of Erlangen. Train connections to
Erlangen are via the "S-Bahn" (rapid transit) to Munich central
station, and then to Erlangen via Nuremberg. Connections may be less convenient
than those via Frankfurt airport (see below), although Munich is closer.
Frankfurt airport is ca. 240 km north-west of Erlangen. There are trains
directly from the airport to Nuremberg where local trains to Erlangen depart
every 20-30 min. during daytime hours. Some of the Frankfurt - Erlangen trains
save time by connecting at Fürth rather than at Nuremberg central station. The
conductor will advise you.
The convenient online-service (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e)
on the World Wide Web is recommended for scheduling individual train routes in
Germany.
Cars may be rented at all airports, or in Erlangen.
Please note:
For looking up train connections to Erlangen starting
from Frankfurt airport, enter "Frankfurt(M)Flugh" as departure. For
trains connections starting from Munich airport, enter "München Flughafen
T" in the query. If your keyboard does not have German "Umlaut"
facilities, enter "Munchen Flughafen" instead. The syntax for date
entry is, e.g., 17.9.1997. The syntax for time entry is, e.g., 11:00.
You may reach Erlangen easily via the Autobahn A73. This connects to the
A9 from Berlin, the A9 from Munich, or the A3 from Frankfurt. Please look at
the map.
Please note:
Please let us know if you will travel by car to inform
the hotel about your need for a parking place.
On the Autobahn A73, take the
"Erlangen-Zentrum" exit. Coming from north (unlikely if you followed
the routes suggested above) you will automatically be on the
"Werner-von-Siemens-Strasse". Coming from south, turn right at the
end of the exit in "Erlangen-Ost" direction and then go straight onto
the "Werner-von-Siemens-Strasse". Continue for ca. 1.5 km until you
see the "Aral" gas station on your
right; the hotel is on your left side, opposite the gas station; turn left onto
“Hofmannstrasse”.
If you leave the hotel, enter the
“Walter-Flex-Strasse” which is on the opposite side of the street. The large
grey building is the Institute of Organic Chemistry.
3. Hotel
Your hotel is the “Dorint-Hotel”
which lies very close to the Institute of Organic Chemistry where the workshop
will be held – walking time approximately 2 min. The workshop will officially
start on Thursday, March 25, at 8.30 and the official end will be on Saturday,
March 27, probably around 14.30. We recommend planning for four nights in the
hotel.
4. Lunch/Dinner/Social Program
Lunch will be served in the local
“Mensa” which is about 5 min by feet from the institute. If you prefer to go to
a restaurant, there are plenty of those in close vicinity. A map with the
restaurants will be in the workshop package that you get when you arrive.
Dinner will also be served in the Mensa but will be a buffet with warm and cold
dishes.
There will be a welcome mixer on
Wednesday, March 24, in the evening (19.00). Brezeln, sausages, cheese and beer
will be offered. We plan to have an excursion to the medieval town of Bamberg
in the afternoon of Saturday, March 27 with a dinner buffet in the evening.
Please note:
Please let us know if you
wish to have lunch and dinner in the Mensa. Also, we would appreciate it if you
could tell us whether you want to participate at the welcome mixer and the
excursion to Bamberg.

lecture.
In order to stimulate
discussions we want to make a poster session. The details about size etc. will
be announced at a later time. Please let us know if you wish to participate at
the poster session.
6. Fees
Due to the tight schedule of the
workshop, we arranged for a complete program of lodging and meals. The hotel,
breakfasts, lunchs, dinners, coffee breaks, social program, workshop packages
including maps, schedules, books, etc. amount to costs of € 500,- per
participant. We kindly ask you to pay this sum in advance and ask for reimbursement
from your funding agency. We will give you at a later time the details of a
bank account in Germany to which you should transfer the money. Thank you for
your understanding!
Please do not hesitate to ask the local organizer if you have
