BLUE HEN CHEMIST

Number 31 John L. Burmeister, Editor August 2004

9th CHEM/BIOC Graduation Convocation, May 29, 2004

A truly perfect Blue and Gold Saturday provided the backdrop for what has become the highlight of the academic year for our Department. Over 300 parents, relatives and friends gathered in Pearson Hall to congratulate the 44 BA/BS, 9 MA/MS, and 17 Ph.D. recipients. Were this 2002 (the last year for which the ACS has reported national CHEM/BIOC graduation data), our 34 certified BS/CHEM + BS/BIOC graduates would have ranked 9/623 in terms of size. In the same vein, our graduating Ph.D. class was the largest we've produced since 1996.

The featured speaker for the occasion was one of the Department's most distinguished graduates: Dr. Linda J. Pike (BS75), Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, Washington University (St. Louis) School of Medicine. Linda was introduced by her undergraduate research mentor, Prof. Emeritus Don Dennis (FAC 61-99).
