Should all use of supplements be banned from athletic competition?
Based on health
concerns, not all supplements should be banned. Only those which
have the potential to cause serious side effects and possibly death should
not be allowed.
Which supplements should be allowed?
Creatine poses
no serious health risks to the user and therefore athletics should be able
to use it. As well, there is no way to test for it in the system
since one cannot go above a certain level in your body and it is present
in one's muscles.
Which supplements should be banned?
Androstenedione
should be banned since it increases hormone production causing adverse
side effects which could be harmful to the body. Ephedrine as well
should be banned since there have been numerous reports of serious side
effects and death with the use of products which contain ephedra.
