Program Information

The University of Delaware Cheerleading Program features a coed squad and an all-girl squad. Each team is visible on the sidelines for all home football games and select volleyball, men's and women's basketball games.

The primary role of each team is to lead and interact with crowds at athletic events and other university appearances. It is essential for all cheerleaders to be comfortable and skilled in their crowd leading abilities. This includes executing sharp motions and calling sidelines while maintaining a smile and high energy level throughout all games and other university functions.

Each squad cheers at all home football games as well as select football away games, basketball games, volleyball matches and CAA/NCAA basketball tournaments. In addition to games, squad members are required to attend several community outreach appearances both on and off campus to increase school spirit while promoting Delaware Athletics. In addition, both our Coed and our All Girl teams compete at the UCA College Nationals in Orlando, FL.

Please fill out the University of Delaware Cheerleading Interest Form to receive information on the program, upcoming clinics, events & more.

Scholarships

At this time, partial scholarships are offered to the top 16 coed and the top 16 all girl team members. The amount varies by athlete as we consider several factors when determining scholarship amounts. There are however other merit based scholarships available. We consider stunt & tumble ability, work ethic, attitude, character and years in the program. The amount usually increases each year as long as the cheerleader fulfills all requirements. It is highly recommended that you consult financial aid to maximize any resources available to you as well.

Academic Common Market: If a student lives in a state that participates and UD has a program not offered in that state, the student may be eligible for in-state tuition rates. This is rare but an available option, visit http://www.sreb.org/page/1304/academic_common_market.html for more information.

Building Leaders Utilizing Education (BLUE) is a four-year educational leadership program focusing on: health & wellness, personal success, community engagement, diversity and inclusion, and career preparation. Students will be engaged in a number of programs, workshops, and activities to assist in building personal, group and community leadership skills from their first year as a Blue Hen through graduation. The program is mandatory for all student-athletes and Club Sport leaders. Each academic class is assigned to a specific set of workshops that they participate in every year.

Recruitment

Admissions will typically consider your senior year coursework and GPA. If your grades/test scores are not exactly where they should be admissions will typically consider your senior year coursework and GPA. It is essential that you excel in the classroom throughout your senior year and select courses that will help prepare you to succeed in the classroom here at UD (College Prep, Honors, AP).
