Instructions
To record a Podcast Episode:
Click on the GarageBand icon (The “Guitar”).
Create New Podcast Episode.
Name your podcast in “Save As”, being careful to pay attention to where you are saving.
To record a podcast voice track:
Insert USB Microphone into the USB port after creating a new podcast episode and click ‘yes’ at the prompt that asks you if you want to use this particular headset.
Under “Input Source” in your “Track Info” choose “On with Feedback Protection” which will keep your microphone from picking up your voice as it plays through any outside speakers.
Choose either “Male Voice” or “Female Voice” by clicking in either gray box until it becomes blue and the red recording indicator light comes on. You are ready to record a voice track. You can check your voice level by the LED to the right of the track name by speaking.
Click the red record button next to the traditional ‘play’, ‘forward’, ‘rewind’ buttons below your ‘tracks’ and start to speak. You will see your voice level in the recording LED indicators and your voice wave following on the track.
To stop recording, press the play button.
To find and import media files with the Media Browser:
Show the Media Browser by clicking the Media Browser button or choosing Control > Show Media Browser.
The Media Browser appears to the right of the timeline.
Click the button at the top of the Media Browser for the type of media files you want to import.
In the file area, navigate to the folder containing the files you want to import.
You can also search for files by name using the search field or you can open them directly from the folder.
Drag the media file you want to import from the Media Browser or directly from the folder to the timeline.
Adding Jingles and Music to your podcast:
Click on the ‘eye’ button next to the scissors (edit) button below and to the left of the timeline. This opens the Apple Loop Broswer.
Select jingles and test them by clicking on them in the display window.
When you find one you like, click on it, hold down the mouse button and drag to the “Jingles” track on your timeline. Move the track by clicking on it and holding down the mouse button.
To add music, use the same search. When you have found something suitable, drag below the existing tracks and it will create a new track with the name of your music.
To export your podcast:
Click the Share button and choose the option that suits you best.
