<P>This narrative writing unit is designed to be implemented in the beginning of the school year. It  is designed around three mentor texts. Two of the texts highlight how important it is to embrace our individual uniqueness while the third is an example of capturing a moment in time. The main standards  addressed in this unit   is 
<Link>CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.3: </Link>
  Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. The teacher will share personal characteristics and stories to provide students with examples of how each of us are unique and that it is  not only to be accepted  but to be celebrated.  The teacher may share out about a moment in time that was significant to her. An example of this could be about getting bitten by a dog at a young age and how that left a scar on her face. The teacher will take each student through the writing process so that each student feels proud of their narrative writing piece.  This unit culminates with the teacher making a class booklet that includes all the students' narrative writing pieces that can be housed in the classroom for students to check out during independent reading time.  </P>
