Race in the Classroom

This unit is intended for Kindergarten students. The unit challenges students to learn about different cultures and races. Within the unit, students will study different cultures, experience different activities related to those cultures, and see presentations from around the community. The students will share with their classmate’s food, events and history of their culture. Students will use learning stations to get specific knowledge about a culture. Students will work together to discover the different cultures in the local community as well as in the world. With help from the community partners, we will work together to create presentations. Literacy skills and 21st century skills are implemented throughout each component. Students utilize technology to receive additional knowledge and different types of graphic organizers to manage the information they are learning. Activities include cooperative learning groups, whole class activities, and yearlong activities that allow the students to see a “day in the life of” different cultures and geographic locations..
