Social Problems through Artistic Expression

The feeling of community gives us the notion that there is something that is bigger than yourself, that there is someplace safe that you can return to, a place where you belong. This feeling of community can sometimes be lost on students when they come to school. They may not have ever felt the feeling of being a positive part of something. This unit will help students develop the character traits of positive citizens within your classroom through the use of artistic expression. With frequent opportunities to relate, create, and perform, the goal is for all students to develop a deeper understand that they play an important role in our community. By the end of this unit, the students will be producing their own puppetry performance to embody all of the elements that they have learned about throughout the unit.
