Eye on the Skies: Man’s Quest for the Stars

This unit was designed for Advanced Academics 5th grade students and extends the science and social studies standards from the regular classroom. It begins with a look at Ancient Inventors, including Leonardo DaVinci. Students will understand that the contributions made by these long ago thinkers still have influence in our lives today. Modern inventor Elon Musk is researched and discussed. Space exploration, including the International Space Station and the possibility of colonization of Mars are covered. Suggestions for integrating the arts are also included. Students will build their knowledge of scientific vocabulary, critical analysis, research skills, astronomy, and historical knowledge.
