Immigration: The Story of Us All

This 12 day, 90 minute block-scheduled curriculum guides students through the journey of immigrants from their home country to the United States. The purpose of this unit is to understand the plight of immigrants trying to make it to the United States all the while telling a story of such a journey in the past. Using the proficiency model of world language education, students will connect themselves with actual immigrants their own age and their experiences, discover grammatical information on their own and be able to write their own immigrant story. Students will work individually and collaboratively to discuss, understand immigrant issues and create stories in the target language using authentic texts, data and videos. By the end of the unit, students will have a better understanding of what it takes to leave home alone as a child and make it to the USA for a future that is brighter than what they previously had.
