From the Grimms Brother’s Sweet Porridge to Strega Nona and Latkes, Latkes, Good to Eat, children have been captivated by stories of food magically appearing. I designed this three-week unit to focus on the magic of fairy tales and use the arts to teach fiction writing. With frequent and extended opportunities to read stories, speak about them, and engage in dramatic play to get physically involved with language, the goal is for all students to build their reading and writing skills. This unit emphasizes story elements, dramatic play, readers theater, and writing. By the end of this unit, students will create and publish their own fairy tale. </Normal>
