<Normal xml:lang="EN-US"> In this four week unit, elementary students will learn science vocabulary and the properties of water. They will learn the value of biodiversity within ecosystems and how all the parts of the system are related. They will discover the causes of pollution and the costs that pollution imposes. The students will learn about habitat creation and repair. Students will explore adaptations in organisms and see how these special features allow survival within an environment. Following Common Core standards, the children will be able to read and answer questions, produce models, and engage in collaborative discussions and work groups. The students will participate in classroom activities, science investigations, field trips and other activities to help build their knowledge about these topics. The purpose of the unit will be for students to be able to see that they are able to make a difference and change the future of our waterways and environment. At the conclusion of the unit, students will work in groups to create a culminating project. These original products will be displayed for the school or celebrated at a Water Night to be held in the Spring. </Normal>
