Through this unit students will learn the difference between renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each. Through this unit students will learn what climate change is, why the climate is changing, and the effects of this climate change. Students will specifically look at the effects of climate change on aquatic environments. The unit is designed to teach students how climate change has many impacts on our environment. Through this unit students will also learn how their daily routines are contributing to the changing climate. Students will create a plan to reduce their carbon footprints at the end of this unit. This unit can be used to teach the effects of climate change in science class, but could also be used in a social studies classroom. The unit can be extended and used cross curricular in a mathematics classroom using numbers to calculate a carbon footprint.
