Children don’t always understand why someone dresses different, talks different, or acts differently than themselves. What is acceptable in one household may not be acceptable in another household. Tolerance towards others needs to be taught in our community. In 2015, we are seeing so much diversity around us here in America as more immigrants enter our country. Educating the youth about these differences and similarities will create a better understanding of the diversity that exists around us. It is scary to see the violence that we have witnessed on the news lately about the intolerance of others. How can we create an America of tolerance and understanding towards others? Hopefully, this unit will help my students see that even those things are done differently around the world, we can all still get along.
