<P xml:lang="EN-US">This unit involves teaching data analysis and critical thinking skills to 1st graders. This 11-day unit will tie in with our Math unit on Data Collection in the Investigations curriculum. I want students to take a closer look at numbers and how they are presented to us and see what exactly they are telling us, if anything. Students will create a survey and then administer it to other 1st graders. We will then look at the data and see what it tells us. Did we ask good questions? Does how we ask the questions influence the responses? Did we get the responses we thought we would? Why or why not? Do the numbers add up? Did we give the respondents reasonable items to choose from? If we asked the same question again, would we get the same response? Students will create, administer and analyze a survey for the whole school and/or faculty. Once we have our responses, what can we do with them? If applicable, students will create an action plan in response to the survey. </P>
