This unit will be used to give students a better understanding of graphs. Through this unit students will learn what a graph is and why they are used. The unit is designed to teach students how to construct both bar graphs, and line graphs. The unit will also teach students how to choose the appropriate type of graph for the data they have collected. Through this unit students will learn where to graph the independent and dependent variables, and how to label each axis. Students will learn how to create a scale for the x and y axis on their graphs. Also through this unit students will learn how to read and interpret a graph. Students will learn to pick out the variables, and gain an understanding for the data that is presented. This unit can be used to teach students how to graph data in science class, graph data in mathematics, and/or interpret a graph from a social studies class. The unit can be used cross curricular and will give students a better understanding of how to construct graphs and how to read and interpret graphs.
