This unit will be taught during the 30 minute Response to Intervention block to students that read at or above grade level. Students will listen and read, where appropriate, stories featuring Anansi the Spider. They will identify literary elements such as character, setting and main idea. Students will learn concepts of the Performing Arts of Dance, Music and Theater. Students will use these concepts to perform dances, musical soundscapes and theatrical performances to help further their understanding of basic plot elements. At the end of the unit, students will choose from three culminating activities: retelling a story through dance, music or theater to show that they have understood both the reading selection and the elements of the appropriate art form.
