Nichols Attached is a whole-child, research-based unit that will provide a structure for how to incorporate story telling and comprehension activities that involve integrated arts activities. A foundation and background knowledge on integrated arts is provided. By incorporating the arts you can reach several types of learning styles. The unit is designed to be used with the novel, The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, however the structure can be applied to any novel study. Students will be required to do activities that include the areas of movement, drama, and music. Through these activities comprehension and retelling of stories and novels will be heightened through the use of dance, theatre, and song. Examples of activities found in the unit are: dance, pantomime, improvisations, and music to determine the tone and mood of a story. Learning about arts integration in this unit will offer valuable insight into the benefits of incorporating the arts in your classroom.
