In this unit, students will apply their understandings of probability and genetics to the world around them. They will use knowledge of compound probability, sampling, experimental probability, and simulations to make predictions about their school and town. My unit is cross curricular, meaning that it compounds the skills that students have learned in science class with the skills that they have learned in math class. In 7th grade, students learn about how traits are passed down to offspring. Since this is a process of chance, it meshes perfectly with the 7th grade probability unit. It is my hopes that they will learn how to take these skills that they have learned in the classroom to model the world around them.
