Joan S. Bennett

Professor Bennett founded the Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Delaware in 1980 with a grant from FIPSE and has served as the program's coordinator since that time. She is also an associate professor in the English Department and the University Honors Program. A graduate of Washington State University, she holds a Ph.D. from Stanford. Professor Bennett has worked with eleven corporate and foundation partners as well as several individual friends of UD's Undergraduate Research Program to provide about $470,000 external funding for UR scholarships. She has given presentations on undergraduate research at many conferences and advised over 50 institutions interested in establishing undergraduate research programs. Her own research publications on the poet John Milton have twice received the James Holly Hanford award for most distinguished work in the field. Professor Bennett is Co-PI on the RAIRE grant.
