ART 381 - Color Photography
As Presented by Priscilla Smith, Fall 2004. This course is designed for the student with a good foundation in basic photography. You will learn how to correctly expose color film and print color photographs. You will learn about color balance from different light sources, exposure variables, papers, and color manipulation techniques. Beyond the basic technical material, the use of color photography to make formal, conceptual statements and practice in the verbalization of those statements is an integral part of this course and a significant aspect of your success in this study. Participation: Attendance is mandatory: three lates or absences will lower the final grade by one letter grade. This course is organized into interlocking sequences of lectures, exercises and visual problems. These will cover important practical, technical, and aesthetic information. Each Visual Problem offers opportunity to use color and personal vision as significant elements within a solution. Critiques serve to explore an image's elements of success and failure with the aim toward achieving excellence. Understanding and use of the following are key components to color photo: Hue, Tone, Saturation, Density, vibrance, and luminosity. Grade Guide:
