4:34 p.m., Oct. 31, 2007--Three UD “celebrities” are joining other well-known personalities in Delaware for a session of Celebrity Squares, based on the popular TV comedy and game show, Hollywood Squares, a favorite for decades.
It's all for a good cause--a fundraiser for the Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation, sponsored by Wilmington Women in Business, which will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at the DuPont Country Club.
The three UD squares will be Scott Mason, associate director of student centers; Joyce Hill Stoner, professor of art conservation; and Monté Ross, head coach of the UD men's basketball team. Both Mason and Stoner are known in the community for their participation in regional theatre.
The UD squares will team up with six other squares, including Lt. Gov. John Carney and Christina School District superintendent Lillian Lowery. Michael Waite of WJBR-FM will emcee the game, and squares will be plied with Delaware-based questions, which they can answer correctly or wildly, with contestants deciding if their answers are for real.
Since its inception in 1996, the Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation has awarded more $200,000 in scholarships to 75 adult women enrolled in two- and four-year degree programs at accredited Delaware colleges and universities.
Cost is $50 per person, including a free hors d'oeuvres buffet, with other levels of sponsorship available. Besides the Celebrity Squares, there will be a silent auction, live auction and raffle, and all proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. For more information, call (302)-479-0120.
