Parents and Family Weekend set Nov. 2-4
4:11 p.m., Oct. 5, 2007--Each fall, UD parents and families are invited to visit campus to join their students for a weekend tailored just for them. This year Parents and Families Weekend will be held Friday-Sunday, Nov. 2-4, with activities for all ages and interests, including athletic events, a ghost walk, ice skating, musical performances, a variety show fundraiser and the gridiron clash between the Fightin' Blue Hens and James Madison University.

Brochures, including ticket order forms, have been sent to all parents and families of undergraduate students, and tickets for special events must be ordered online by Wednesday, Oct. 24. After that date, ticket orders cannot be processed, although tickets for the pre-game brunch and Sunday brunch in the dining halls may be purchased at the door. Ticket orders made online by Wednesday, Oct. 17, will be mailed; orders placed from Oct. 18-24 will be held for pick-up at the University box offices at the Trabant University Center and the Bob Carpenter Center.

Here's the rundown of this year's schedule of events.


FRIDAY, NOV. 2

Dinner at the Blue & Gold Club, with seatings at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; call (302) 831-2582 for information and to make prepaid reservations.

“Ghosts (and History) on The Green,” walking tours at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Old College; free admission, but tickets are required, must be ordered via the online ticket order process, and go quickly for this popular annual event.

Men's Soccer vs. Old Dominion University, 7 p.m., Delaware Mini-Stadium, $4 for adults, $2 for children 14 and younger, free for UD students with ID; tickets may be purchased at the stadium on the day of the game.

Women's Volleyball vs. James Madison University, 7 p.m., Barbara Viera Court at the Carpenter Sports Building, $4 for adults, $2 for children 14 and younger, free for UD students with ID; tickets may be purchased at the Carpenter Sports Building on the day of the game.

Concert: Newsboys, 6:30 p.m., Bob Carpenter Center; tickets are available through Ticketmaster [www.ticketmaster.com], or in person at the UD Box Offices in the Trabant University Center and the Bob Carpenter Center.

Ice skating, 8-10 p.m., Fred Rust Ice Arena, admission $6 adults, $5 children 6 and younger, free for UD students with ID, $3 for skate rental.

Open hockey, 10 p.m.-midnight, Fred Rust Ice Arena, $10 to play, payable at the door; equipment is required and participants must supply their own equipment.

Movie: Transformers, 7:30 and 10 p.m., Trabant University Center Theatre, $3 at the door.

Gamma Sigma Sigma Variety Show, 8 p.m., Mitchell Hall, $5 at the door; all proceeds go to the Delaware Foundation for Reaching Children with Cognitive Disabilities.

UD Women's Ice Hockey vs. Slippery Rock University, 8:15 p.m., Gold Ice Arena, free admission.

SATURDAY, NOV. 3

Blue Hen Tailgate Brunch, 10 a.m.-noon, inside Delaware Field House, $17.75 for adults (including UD students), $8.50 for children 8 and younger, see ticket order form.

The University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum on the second floor of Penny Hall is open from 1-4 p.m., Friday-Sunday, Nov. 2-4.

Admissions information sessions and campus tours are offered at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, and at 10 a.m. and noon, Saturday, Nov. 3, through the Visitors Center at 196 South College Ave. A 30-minute admissions information session is followed by a two-hour walking tour.
