UD field hockey falls to Duke, tops Towson

8:54 a.m., Oct. 22, 2007--The University of Delaware field hockey team fell 5-3 to No. 10-ranked Duke University in a game played Saturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium. The Fightin' Blue Hens bounced back to defeat Towson University 2-1 in overtime in a Colonial Athletic Association contest played Sunday in Owings Mills, Md.

Duke took a 3-0 lead against the Hens, who rallied to tie the game 3-3 on consecutive goals by Michelle Drummonds, on an assist from Alexis Esbitt, Casey Howard and Tori Karsten, on an assist by Missy Woodie. The Blue Devils then scored the final two goals for the win.

On Sunday, the Hens went to overtime to defeat Towson, with Howard scoring the winning goal. UD trailed late when Amanda Warrington scored on a pass from Howard to send the game into overtime. UD goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades had six saves.

The Hens are now 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the CAA. They will close out the regular season with conference home games against Drexel University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, and Hofstra University at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28. Both games will be played at Rullo Stadium. Drexel is 9-7 and Hostra is 6-9.
