More than 2,000 viewers attended the opening reception on May 8, in conjunction with Open Studio night at Crane Arts, according to Virginia Bradley, chairperson of the art department. Tom Apple, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, also was present and spoke at the event.
This show is a prelude to having a permanent showcase for the arts and humanities at UD at Crane Arts this fall, sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, Bradley said. The space will be a satellite venue and can provide a focal place for alumni and other UD friends in the area to gather as well as an exhibition area.
“The reception on May 8 was an exciting event, and the works of art by our students were very well-received,” Bradley said. “The art works complemented each other and attracted a lot of attention. Faculty from Temple and Penn praised the level of sophistication of the art works on display.”
Students participating in the MFA Thesis Exhibition included David Carlisle, Rodney Godek, Michael Kalmbach, Teresa Mikulan, Jennifer Peel, Lauren Scott and Lauren Vanni.
Vanni's ceramics and Carlisle's sculpture installation attracted interest from viewers, and Kalmbach was even selling paintings out of his Cadillac, Bradley said.
