10:25 a.m., May 21, 2008--Maitreya Natu, who received his doctorate in computer and information sciences in January, received the Best Dissertation Research Award for 2007 at the International Symposium on Network Operations and Management, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). The symposium was held in April in Salvador, Brazil.

The award was highly competitive with students from all over the world whose dissertations focused on network and services management submitting summaries of their dissertation research. Eight papers were accepted for presentation at the symposium, and Natu's dissertation, “Application of Adaptive Probing for Fault Diagnosis in Computer Networks,” was selected for the top award.

“This is a prestigious award in my research community, and I am very proud of Maitreya for his accomplishments,” Adarshpal Sethi, professor computer and information sciences, and Natu's adviser, said.

Natu is currently as a research staff member at the Tata Research, Design and Development Center in Pune, India, where he is working on fault management in computer networks.
