UD women’s lacrosse splits weekend games

9:12 a.m., March 31, 2008--The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team split a pair of weekend games, defeating Penn State University 13-4 on Friday afternoon at Rullo Stadium before falling 15-10 on Sunday afternoon at Towson University in a Colonial Athletic Association contest.

Towson scored the first four goals of the game and the Fightin' Blue Hens were unable to overtake the Tigers, although they pulled within two early in the second half.

Casey McCrudden had five goals for the Blue Hens, and Emily Schaknowski had two goals and one assist. Also scoring were Courtney Aburn, Brittany Davis and Lexie Yakulis. Goalkeeper Jessica Cerveny had 11 saves.

Delaware broke out to a 6-1 halftime lead in the victory over Penn State and extended the margin in the second half. Schaknowski had four goals and two assists, Julianna Jeffers had four goals and one assist and Aburn had three goals. Also scoring were Davis and Morgan Marino. Cerveny had eight saves.

Delaware is now 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the CAA. The Blue Hens will return to action with a CAA game against Drexel University at 7 p.m., Friday, April 4, at Rullo Stadium. They will then travel to Hofstra University for a conference game at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 6.
