Blue Hen rowing team competes in Philadelphia

8:50 a.m., March 10, 2008--The University of Delaware women's rowing team opened the spring season by placing second in two events in a four-way meet with Drexel, Lehigh and host St. Joseph's University Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

The Fightin' Blue Hens finished second in the novice eights and novice fours events, third in the varsity eights and varsity fours races, and fourth in the second varsity eights race.

In the novice eights race, Delaware's team of coxswain Marra Green, Tracy Iudica, Leanna Colubriale, Kaitlin Roehrer, Steph Lynch, Katelyn Huber, Corey Kalota, Sara Leviton and Sarah Baillie was second in a time of 6:38.7. St. Joseph's won the race in 6:25.3 and Drexel was third in 7:04.1.

In the novice fours event, Delaware's team of coxswain Amanda Burton, Alexx Delorme, Lily Chavarriaga, Valerie Glace and Nicolette Lotrionte was second in a time of 6:48.1. Lehigh won the race in a time of 6:43.3 while St. Joseph's was third in 7:00.4.

In the varsity eights event, St. Joseph's won in a time of 5:48.9, Drexel was second in 5:55.5, Delaware was third in 5:58.1, and Lehigh was fourth in 6:05.6. Delaware's team consisted of coxswain Callie Tegan, Mary Grace Maggiano, Darra Finnerty, Regine Adrien, Liz Cretekos, Elizabeth Carey, Lana Rivers, Meredith Rubin and Lisa Medina.

In the varsity fours, Drexel took first place in 6:23.5, St. Joseph's was second in 6:28.5, and Delaware's team of coxswain Jen Popkin, Grace Bennett, Tara Bree, Rachel Waylett and Lindsay Byrne finished third in 7:05.6.

In the second varsity eights, St. Joseph's won in 6:05.1, Lehigh was second in 6:12.8, Lehigh B was third in 6:13.5, and Delaware was fourth in 6:15.9. The Blue Hen team consisted of coxswain Avery Griffin, Katie Gooding, Taima McCartney, Laura Stiffler, Jess Brooks, Maureen Reardon, Clare Wardwell, Arielle Katz and Brittany Hayes.

Delaware will return to action, Saturday, March 22, in a four-way meet with Bucknell, George Washington and host George Mason.
