Entrepreneurship forum slated for April 25 at UD

4:37 p.m., March 18, 2008--UD's President's Forum on Entrepreneurship, “The Engine of Innovation and Economic Growth,” is set for 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday, April 25, in the Puglisi Orchestra Hall of the Louise and David Roselle Center for the Arts.

Featured speakers at the conference include:

  • Michael Schwartz, owner and CEO of Mike's Famous Harley-Davidson, New Castle, Del.;
  • Matt O'Donnell, morning anchor of WPVI-TV6 Action News;
  • Ty Austin, director of Strategic Initiatives, DelACCESS Consortium;
  • Elizabeth Browning, CEO of LLuminari;
  • Sam Calagione, founder and president of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery;
  • Ernie Dianastasis, managing director and principal of CAI Inc.; and
  • Carol A. Ammon, founder and former chairperson of Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc.

“Entrepreneurship plays an important role in promoting economic growth and development,” said Bobby Gempesaw, dean of the Lerner College of Business and Economics, who will give the welcoming and opening remarks at the forum. “However, entrepreneurship needs to be encouraged and supported, particularly for our students who will be among the next generation's entrepreneurs. This Forum seeks to provide an opportunity for our students and the community to learn and be motivated by the experiences of successful Delaware entrepreneurs.”

The forum is sponsored by UD's Lerner College of Business and Economics, First State Innovation, the Delaware Economic Development Office, Early Stage East and several other campus units and state-based organizations.

The cost of the all-day conference, which includes a luncheon, is $25. The registration deadline is Friday, April 18, and entrants will be given a lunch entrée choice at the time they register.
