11:05 a.m., June 5, 2008--Five University of Delaware rowers have been named to the 2008 NCAA Division I Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete Team. Fightin' Blue Hens standouts honored were junior Taima McCartney, senior Cami Off, sophomore Maureen Reardon, senior co-captain Lana Rivers and sophomore Erin Venturato.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, have at least sophomore eligibility and have competed in a minimum of 75 percent of the team's spring races.
McCartney, of Hammonton, N.J., is an exercise science major and carries a 3.64 grade point average. She competed in all seven meets this spring as a member of the second varsity eights, which finished third in the Colonial Athletic Association meet and fifth in the petite final at the ECAC metro championships.
Off, from Somers Point, N.J., is an English major with a minor in history and carries a 3.72 grade point average. She is a four-year letter winner and earned a spot on the CRCA Scholar-Athlete Team for the second straight year.
Reardon, of Wilmington, Del., is an art history major and carries a 3.86 grade point average. She competed in all seven meets this spring as a member of the second varsity eights.
Rivers, also of Wilmington, is a biological sciences major with a minor in Spanish and carries a 3.74 grade point average. A four-year letter winner, she earned a spot on the CRCA Scholar-Athlete Team for the second straight year. She competed in all seven meets as a member of the varsity eights, which finished third in the CAA championships, fifth in the petite final at the ECAC metro championships and fifth in the repechage at the historic Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
Venturato, from Ridgefield, Conn., is an elementary education major with a minor in disabilities studies and carries a 3.68 grade point average. She competed in all seven meets this spring as a member of the varsity fours, which finished fifth at the CAA championships, fifth in the petite final at the ECAC metro championships and fifth in its heat at the Dad Vail Regatta.
