Delaware announces 15 track and field recruits

2:46 p.m., July 12, 2007--University of Delaware Head Coach Jim Fischer has announced 15 additional scholar-athletes who will compete for the Fightin' Blue Hens men's cross country and track and field teams.

The recruits include sprinter Jim Baggott of Hingham (Mass.) High School), middle distance runner Alex Malikian of North Salem (N.Y.) High School, and distance and cross country runner Nate Twer of Jenkintown (Pa.) High School.

Delaware recruits are distance and cross country runner Tyler Blaisdell and weight thrower Matt Lattanzi from Archmere Academy; pole vaulter Joe Snodgrass from Brandywine High School; sprinter Chad Mills from Caravel Academy; sprinter Justin Molligan from Wilmington Charter School; middle distance and cross country runner Mike Tait from Concord High School; middle distance runner Kyle Caldwell from Dover High School; distance and cross country runners Kyle Bain, Drew Hoffman and Sean Rodammer from St. Mark's High School; jumper Jamie Igo from Salesianum School; and distance and cross country runner Will Kelly from Tatnall School.

Baggott finished second in the 400-meter run and second in the 4x400-meter relay at the Eastern Massachusetts state outdoor championships in May and Malikian finished in the top 10 in the 800-meter run at the New York state meet. Twer finished fifth in the 1,600-meter run at the Pennsylvania state meet with a time of 4:21.55 after winning the district title in the event.

Blaisdell finished fourth in the 4x800-meter relay and 11th in the 800 meters at the 2007 Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association state outdoor meet. Lattanzi finished fourth in the shot put at the state outdoor meet, while Snodgrass finished fourth in the pole vault at the state indoor meet and fourth in the outdoor meet while also finishing 45th at the state cross country meet.

Mills was a standout for Caravel, the state outdoor Division II runner-up team, and Molligan finished second in the 400 meters and 13th in the 200 meters at the state indoor meet and was sixth in the 400 meters and seventh in the 200 meters at the outdoor meet. Tait was a member of the state indoor and outdoor champion 4x800-meter relay team and led Concord to the team state title in both meets, finished third in the 800 meters at the outdoor meet and was 30th at the state cross country meet.

Caldwell was fourth in the 4x800-meter relay and 14th in the 800 meters at the state indoor meet, won the state title in the 4x400-meter relay, was second in the 4x800-meter relay, was fifth in the 800 meters and 46th at the state cross country meet. Rodammer finished sixth in the state indoor 4x 800-meter relay, third in the 4x800-meter relay and ninth in the 800 meters at the state outdoor meet, and was 31st at the state cross country championships.

Bain and Hoffman were standout distance runners for a St. Mark's team that was the state outdoor meet runner-up in 2007, and Igo led Salesianum to the outdoor team title by winning the state championship in the high jump and finishing fourth in the triple jump.

Kelly finished eighth in the 4x800-meter relay and 12th in the 3,200 meters at the state indoor meet, finished 10th in the 4x400-meter relay and 11th in the 1,600 meters at the state outdoor meet, and finished 12th in the 2006 state cross country meet won by Tatnall.

Earlier, UD announced the first part of the recruiting class, which includes shot put and discus thrower Nick Alexander from Hackettstown, N.J.; distance runner Pierce Conlon of Wilmington; weight thrower Theo Lusardi of Hopatcong, N.J.; sprinter and jumper Ross Shober of Reinholds, Pa.; weight thrower John Viotto of Dayton, N.J.; and middle distance runner Corey Wall of Clarks Summit, Pa.
