Hens Law, Beridze join UD swim team staff

8:16 a.m., July 30, 2007--Former University of Delaware swimming standouts Meredith Law and Levan Beridze will serve as graduate assistant coaches for the 2007-08 season, Fightin' Blue Hens Head Coach John Hayman has announced.

Law, a native of Chesapeake, Va., and Beridze, a native of Tbilisi, Georgia, will join a staff that includes Hayman, assistant coach Rory Coleman and diving coach Peter Metrinko.

Law earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in English and Medieval studies in May. She is pursuing a master's degree in education at UD.

A four-year standout, Law ranks in the top 10 all-time in six events and holds the school record in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:35.69. She also ranks No. 3 in the 400 individual medley (4:33.69), No. 4 in the 1,000 freestyle (10:29.47), No. 4 in the 500 freestyle (5:02.14), No. 6 in the 1,650 freestyle (17:23.31) and No. 7 in the 200 freestyle (1:54.51).

She posted 15 career top 10 finishes at the Colonial Athletic Association championships, and won the 800 freestyle relay title as a freshman in 2004. She finished fourth in the 800 freestyle relay in 2007.

Levan Beridze
Beridze, who worked with the UD program last season while finishing his undergraduate degree, will pursue a master's degree in public policy and foreign affairs.

After transferring from Rutgers University, Beridze enjoyed a standout two-year UD career as one of the top freestyle sprinters in the CAA. He earned a bachelor's degree in international relations with a minor in Russian in May.

He ranks in the top five all-time in four events in Delaware history, including a school record of 3:06.73 in the 400 freestyle relay in 2005-06. He also ranks No. 2 all-time at UD in the 100 freestyle (45.75) and 200 freestyle (1:41.91) and No. 5 in the 50 freestyle (21.18).

He collected 11 top 10 finishes at the CAA championships in his two seasons, finishing fourth in both the 100 freestyle in 2005 and in the 400 freestyle relay in 2006.
