8:54 a.m., Feb. 19, 2008--Four high school standouts, two each from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Delaware on athletic scholarships and compete for the Fightin' Blue Hens women's soccer team this fall, Head Coach Scott Grzenda has announced.
The players are forward Stacie Dulkis from Mahwah (N.J.) High School, defender Laura Klebe from Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pa., goalkeeper Breanna Stemler from Hatboro-Horsham (Pa.) High School, and midfielder Leigh Victory from New Milford (N.J.) High School.
Dulkis was a three-time first team all-league and two-time first team all-county selection at Mahwah High. As a senior, she was named one of the top 20 players in New Jersey and she is a member of the Arsenal World Class club team that was ranked No. 1 in the state and the region and No. 3 in the nation during the 2007 season. She also is a four-year letter winner in track and field and is the school's record-holder in the 55 meters.
“Stacie is a very technical, athletic, hard working player,” said Grzenda, who will enter his 18th season at the helm of the Blue Hens this fall. “She has the ability to score goals in bunches and the tenacity to create opportunities from nothing. We expect Stacie to contribute immediately to our offense.”
Klebe, an outside defender, was a three-time first team Al-Central League selection at Conestoga High, where she was named the team's defensive most valuable player twice and the team MVP as a senior. She led Conestoga High to the state tournament three of her four seasons and helped the Pioneers win the 2007 state AAA title. She is currently a defender for the FC Delco Fury club team that has won three consecutive eastern Pennsylvania championships and was a Region One finalist in 2007. She also was a 3v3 national champion in 2001.
“Laura is a great one-on-one defender who has the ability to both shut down opponents and get involved in the attack,” said Grzenda. “She has great speed and a great soccer mind. We are very happy she chose Delaware to continue her athletic and academic careers.”
Stemler was a standout goalkeeper and an honor roll student at Hatboro-Horsham High, where she was a three-time first team All-Suburban One selection and earned her team's MVP award three times. She was a six-year member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic Development team, has played on the ODP Regional team, and has trained with the national team. She currently plays for the Spirit United Wildcats club team.
“Breanna is a great goalkeeper,” said Grzenda. “She has played at an extremely high level and been very successful. She is someone who is always consistent and can make the big save when needed.”
Victory, a versatile midfielder at New Milford High, capped an outstanding career this past fall. She scored 72 goals in her career and set the school assist record with 70 as she was named first team all-league four times and all-county twice. As a member of the Arsenal World Class club squad, she teamed with Dulkis to help the team achieve a No. 3 national ranking. Arsenal was also ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 1 in Region One over the past year. Victory was a member of the New Jersey state team during her high school career and is a four-year honor roll student.
“Leigh is a terrific athlete and will be one of the toughest players in our conference,” Grzenda said. “She has the ability to excel anywhere on the field. She will be a great addition to our team.”
