UD men’s lacrosse team defeats Marist 12-6

8:43 a.m., Feb. 25, 2008--The No. 14-ranked University of Delaware men's lacrosse team defeated Marist College 12-6 in a game played Saturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

The victory was the 500th career coaching appearance for UD Head Coach Bob Shillinglaw, who is 267-233 and is fourth in wins among active NCAA Division I coaches. He joins Jack Emmer, who coached 510 games at Cortland State, Washington & Lee and the U.S. Military Academy from 1970-2005, as the only coaches in NCAA lacrosse history to coach 500 games.

The Fightin' Blue Hens got a quick start, leading 4-0 after the first quarter and 9-3 at the half.

Sophomore attackman Curtis Dickson led UD with five goals and three assists. Senior Cam Howard had two goals and one assist and freshman Anthony Ruiz had two goals and won 11 of 18 face-offs. Also scoring for the Blue Hens were Vincent Giordano, Beau Davis and Martin Cahill.

UD senior goalkeeper Tommy Scherr had 10 saves, surpassing the 400 mark for his career.

The Blue Hens will return to action with a game at Rutgers University at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 1. They will return home for a game against the University at Albany at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at Rullo Stadium.
