Delaware men’s lacrosse defeats UMBC 15-7

8:59 a.m., Feb. 18, 2008--The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team defeated the University of Maryland Baltimore County 15-7 in a game played Saturday, Feb. 16, as part of the Wounded Warrior benefit tournament in Neptune Beach, Fla.

The game, a rematch of the 2007 NCAA Division I championship tournament quarterfinal won 10-6 by UD, was played before a crowd of 4,500 under sunny skies at Fletcher High School. The game was part of the Face Off for a Cause Classic, with proceeds benefitting the Wounded Warrior organization that support wounded soldiers.

The Blue Hens, ranked No. 14 in the nation, used a seven-goal explosion in the second quarter to build a 9-3 halftime lead and never looked back. UMBC entered the game ranked No. 18.

UD sophomore attack Curtis Dickson had five goals and one assists, senior attack Cam Howard had two goals and five assists and sophomore midfielder Martin Cahill had three goals and one assist.

Also scoring goals for the Blue Hens were sophomore attack Pat Lombard, junior attack Nick LoManto, junior midfielder Rob Bassett, sophomore midfielder Kevin Kaminski and freshman Tim Langmaid. Senior goalkeeper Tom Scherr had 15 saves.

The Blue Hens, now 2-0 to open the season, will return to action against Marist College at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Rullo Stadium.
