Cuff, Byrne, Striefsky named All-Americans
UD senior running back Omar Cuff and teammates Mike Byrne and Jon Striefsky have earned All-America honors.
10:04 a.m., Dec. 13, 2007--After leading the University of Delaware football team to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision title game, Fightin' Blue Hens seniors Omar Cuff and Mike Byrne and sophomore kicker Jon Striefsky have earned first team All-America honors.

Cuff and Byrne were honored by the Walter Camp Foundation, and Cuff also was named first team All-America by the American Football Coaches Association and the Associated Press. Striefsky was honored as a first team selection by the Associated Press, which included Byrne on its third team.

Cuff is the first Blue Hen running back to earn Walter Camp honors and just the third, joining Gardy Kahoe in 1971 and Daryl Brown in 1994, to earn AFCA honors. A first team All-CAA selection this season, he has run for 1,861 yards and has hauled in 52 receptions for 513 yards.

A starter in all 14 games, Cuff leads the nation in scoring with 38 touchdowns, which set a new single-season record in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA, and is just three shy of the overall NCAA mark.

A third-team All-America selection by The Sports Network as a sophomore in 2005, Cuff earned national offensive player of the week honors after scoring seven touchdowns and racking up 296 yards of total offense against the College of William and Mary in the season opener.

Byrne is just the third Delaware offensive lineman to earn first team Walter Camp honors. He joins Brian Cook, who was honored in 1998, and Jeff Fiss, who was honored in 2000.

In 2007, Byrne has started all 14 games and helped pave the way for an offense that finished the regular season ranked first in the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring (37.3 points per game), passing (286.3 yards per game) and total offense (462.6 yards per game).

Earlier this season, Byrne was selected first team All-CAA and was named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation Draddy Award, given to the nation's top scholar-athlete. Also, Byrne has earned College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 All-Academic honors.

Striefsky had a breakout season and hit 21 of 23 field goals attempts, twice scoring on 47-yard tries in the NCAA playoffs. He had 96 kickoffs for an average of 56.8 yards.
