
The Fightin' Blue Hens defeated Boston College 3-1 on Friday and Binghamton University 3-0 and the University of South Carolina 3-0 on Saturday.
UD sophomore libero Stephanie Barry was named the tournament's most valuable player. For the tournament Barry tallied 93 digs, including back-to-back 30-dig performances against Boston College and Binghamton. She became the first Hen to record consecutive 30-dig matches since Heather Ranck had three straight in 2005.
Joining Barry on the all-tournament team were UD's Colleen Walsh, who had 58 kills during the weekend, and Megan Welch, who had 133 assists.
In the victory over Boston College, the Hens dropped the first game 30-27 but then won 30-25, 30-15 and 31-29 to take the match. Walsh had 22 kills, Michelle LaLonde had 16 and Katie Dennehy had 11. Barry had 36 digs and Welch had 46 assists.
Against Binghamton, UD won 30-24, 30-25 and 30-23. Walsh had 19 kills and Molly Rand and Dennehy had 13 each. Barry had 33 digs and Welch had 45 assists.
In the tournament finale against South Carolina, the Hens won 30-20, 30-20 and 30-28. Walsh had 17 kills and Dennehy had 13. Barry had 24 digs and four service aces, and Welch had 42 assists.
UD will return to action with a game at Temple University at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, then will leave to participate in the University of New Orleans Tournament Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
