Aug. 30, 2007--Mary K. Norton, 59, of Newark, Del., died Aug. 26, at her home after a short illness.
She taught at the University of Delaware in both the Parallel Program and the College of Education, and also worked in the University's Academic Studies Assistance Program. Together with her husband, the late David L. Norton, UD professor of philosophy, she authored Philosophies of Love.
Mrs. Norton was honored by the College of Education in 1993 with the Second Mile Award for Exemplary Teaching. In 1999, she received the Award of Highest Honor from the Women's College of Soka University in Tokyo, Japan. She served until her death as a member of the Board of Trustees of Soka University of America in California
She was born in Carneys Point, N.J., on Jan. 9, 1948, daughter of the late Walter Kille and Mary Stewart Kille.
Mrs. Norton volunteered in the Red Clay Creek School District for 15 years and also was a Literacy Volunteer and worked in the Threshold Program at the Smyrna Correctional Facility, as well as the Women's Prison.
She is survived by two sons, Tucker Norton and his wife, Kelley, of Chesterfield, Va.; and Cory Norton and his wife, Vicki, of Middletown, Del.; a stepson, Ron Norton of Florida; and two grandchildren, McKenna and Aria.
Funeral services were private.
