In Memoriam
Elizabeth Cloud

April 18, 2008--The following memorial tribute to Elizabeth Cloud was presented by Madeline Lambrecht, professor and director of the Division of Special Programs, College of Health Sciences, at the Semiannual General Faculty Meeting on April 7, 2008.

We regret the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Cloud this year at the age of 91 years. Betty retired as an associate professor of nursing from the University of Delaware in 1982. She was employed by the University of Delaware in 1965 and received tenure in 1972. She was active as a teacher in the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs and retired from the College of Nursing while the holding the position of Director of Continuing Education. She was granted Emeritus status for the University of Delaware.

Betty was born in 1916 and was the daughter of Walter J. and Esther J. Evans Cloud. Betty served as a captain during World War II with the 55th General Hospital Organization and received several awards for serving her country as a registered nurse. Betty received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal and a Meritorious Unit Award while in the armed forces.

Betty was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honors society; the National Organization of World War II nurses; the American Contract Bridge League; and the Montgomery Hospital Alumnae Association, Norristown, Pa.

Dedicated to the profession of nursing, to her work at the University of Delaware, and to her colleagues, Betty demanded excellence of herself and from those around her. She will be missed.
