UD cross country teams compete in Minnesota

10:31 a.m., Sept. 25, 2006--The University of Delaware women’s cross country team finished in 29th place and the men’s team in 31st at the 2006 Roy Griak Cross Country Invitational held Saturday afternoon at the University of Minnesota.

The UD women’s team was led by Julia Somers, who finished 116th in the six-kilometer course in 23:31.90. Colleen O’Brien finished 183rd in 24:23.05, Brook Maguire was 187th in 24:25.40 and Jessica Leitsch was 212th in 24:49.70. Lindsay Schmiedel finished 240th in 25:10.40, while Kerrigan Smith was 246th in 25:26.60 and Liz Paul was 256th in 25:37.50.

Meghan McGrath finished 261st in 25:44.25, Meghan Weaver was 273rd in 26:24.60, Annie Kowtuniak was 278th in 26:48.00, and Leslie Wason was 283rd in 27:55.25.

P.J. Meany led the UD men’s team, finishing 174th in the eight-kilometer course in 26:52.35. Tyler Mayforth was 195th in 27:08.05 and Kyle Schmid was 199th in 27:12.35. Gregg Cantwell finished 222nd in 27:29.60, Nick Pyle was 248th in 27:54.25 and Mike Zeberkiewicz was 260th in 28:07.30. Chris Bourke finished 261st in 28:09.70, Jimmy Daly was 291st in 28:56.35, and Tim Brock was 292nd in 29:14.20.

Both UD teams will return to action on Friday when they compete in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University. The men’s race will start at 2 p.m. and the women’s race at 2:45 p.m.
