UD women’s soccer ties Air Force Academy, 0-0

UD’s Kendall Lytwynec scored for the Hens in a 4-2 loss to Fairfield.

11:28 a.m., Sept. 18, 2006--Playing in the BAE Systems Tournament at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the University of Delaware women's soccer team battled the U.S. Air Force Academy to a 0-0 draw on Sunday. In their opening game of the tournament, the Fightin' Blue Hens fell 4-2 to Fairfield University.

UD is now 5-1-2 as it prepares to open Colonial Athletic Association play with a pair of home games at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. The Hens will face Old Dominion University at 7 p.m., Friday, and the College of William & Mary at 2 p.m., Sunday. Old Dominion is 7-0 and William & Mary is 6-1-1, and ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division I by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

In the tie against Air Force, UD goalkeeper Bonnie Mills had seven saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Lindsay Boyd had four of the Hens' eight shots.

In the loss to Fairfield, UD took an early lead when Melissa Kilker scored off a cross from Alli D'Amico. Fairfield answered and then Kendall Lytwynec scored to give the Hens a 2-1 lead. Fairfield answered again, this time on a penalty kick, and the teams went into the half tied 2-2. Fairfield scored twice in the second half to gain the win. Mills had four saves.

Both Mills and midfielder Kasie Shover were named to the all-tournament team.
