Women’s Studies fall lecture series continues

3 p.m., Sept. 11, 2006--The Women Studies Program's lecture series, “Research on Women,” which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for 12:20-1:10 p.m., Wednesdays, in 103 Gore Hall. The series, which began Aug. 30, also serves as a one-credit pass/fail course for UD students.

The lecture series includes:

  • “Angelica Gorodischer, Mireya Keller, and Gladys Ilarregui: Three Takes on Contemporary Argentine Feminism,” by Judy McInnis, professor of foreign languages and literatures, Sept. 13;
  • “Menstruation Revolution: The Impact of Kotex Sanitary Napkins and Tampax Tampons on the Feminine Product Industry and Society,” by Kira Mineroff, AS '07, Sept. 20;
  • “Stories of Survival: Making Visible the Strengths and Strategies of Battered Mothers,” by Laura Thompson Brady, professor of individual and family studies, Sept. 27;
  • “Working Women in Chester County: Negotiating the World of Work, 1815-55,” by S. Seabrook Jones, history graduate student, Oct. 4;
  • “The Dream of a Million Girls: Pageants, Beauty Culture and Feminism in the 1960s,” by Michelle Filling, English graduate student, Oct. 11;
  • “Magazines of Their Own: Modern Women's Journalism in Inter-war Britain,” by Melissa Sullivan, English graduate student, Oct. 18;
  • “Coming Into History: Pregnancy, Childbirth and Childhood,” by Jeanne Walker, professor of English, Oct. 25;
  • “Difference or Discrimination? Gender Line in Language in Japanese Society,” by Rika Saito, assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures, Nov. 1;
  • “Black Female Sexuality: When is Too Much Too Much?” by Carol Henderson, associate professor of English, Nov. 8;
  • “Hurricane Katrina and Domestic Violence Shelters: An Organizational Analysis,” by Bethany Brown, Disaster Research Center, Nov. 15;
  • “The Diseasing Healer: Infectious Women in Delicado's La Lozana Andaluza and Cervantes' Trabajaos De Persiles Y Sigismunda,” by Meghan McInnis-Dominguez, University of Pennsylvania, Nov. 22;
  • “Guilt and Gastronomic Nostalgia in Paradise: Afro-Antillean Cuisine and Global Tourism,” by Carla Guerron-Montero, assistant professor of anthropology, Nov. 29.
