Freshman Family Weekend festivities a hit

5:34 p.m., Sept. 18, 2006--With weather conditions steadily changing for the better, UD's Freshman Family Weekend, held Sept. 15-17, was an enjoyable and educational experience for those who participated, Nancy Millard, assistant director of University relations, said. “The turnout was great,” she said. “The weather held out and Saturday and Sunday turned out to be really nice days.”

Millard said that about 3,000 tickets for the UD/Albany football game and tailgate dinner were sold through Freshman Family Weekend. “We had about 1,700 guests at the tailgate dinner and pep rally held at the Delaware Field House,” she said.

Lunch at the Kent Dining Hall sold out, with 325 guests participating, and more than 500 had Dessert with the Deans on The Green outside of Gore Hall.

Among the 1,700 guests enjoying the tailgate dinner and pep rally in the Delaware Field House before the evening football game, were (standing, from left) Dawn Waddington, freshman Courtney Waddington and Guy Waddinton of Pennsville, N.J., and (seated, from left) Scott Galloway, freshman Ryan Galloway, Lindsay Galloway and Elaine Galloway of Media, Pa.
The information sessions, which included “Study Abroad Programs,” “Developing Good Study Habits,” and “Back to Class” faculty lectures, all were well attended, especially the lecture on the biomechanics of golf, with Todd Royer, associate professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, Millard said.

With about 3,308 freshmen in the Class of 2010, almost one-third of the class and their families joined in the festivities.

Freshman Family Weekend is an opportunity for freshmen and transfer students and their parents and family members to celebrate their new association with UD, while familiarizing new students and their families with all that is available in the University community.
