Hofstra volleyball hands Blue Hens first loss

Senior Heather Ranck had 17 digs in the Hens’ loss to Hofstra.

10:02 a.m., Sept. 22, 2006--The University of Delaware volleyball team's 12-game winning streak came to an end Thursday night when the Fightin' Blue Hens fell 3-0 to Colonial Athletic Association power Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. UD lost the match 30-16, 30-27 and 30-26.

The 12 straight victories to start the season easily surpassed the previous record set by the 1976 team, which opened that season 7-0.

For the Hens, senior Heather Ranck had 17 digs and Colleen Walsh had 13 kills. Junior setter Megan Welch had 33 assists and Kelly Gibson had 11 kills to go along with nine digs.

UD, which is now 3-1 in CAA play, will return to conference action with a game against the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, at Barbara Viera Court at the Carpenter Sports Building.
