Blue Hens visit Hofstra in volleyball showdown

UD sophomore Sue Wiker had 11 kills in the victory over Northeastern.

8:48 a.m., Sept. 21, 2006--A key early season Colonial Athletic Association volleyball showdown will be held at 5 p.m., this evening, when the undefeated University of Delaware team visits Hofstra University with first place on the line.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the CAA following a 3-1 conference victory over host Northeastern University on Wednesday.

Hofstra is 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Pride is led by junior setter Shellane Ogoshi, the CAA player of the week, and has a two-match winning streak with victories over the College of William & Mary and defending conference champion Virginia Commonwealth University.

In the victory over Northeastern, the Hens won 30-21, 30-32, 30-19 and 30-20. UD junior Colleen Walsh had 16 kills and fellow junior Kelly Gibson had 14 kills, 12 digs and 5 service aces. Sophomore Sue Wiker had 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage, while Heather Ranck had 25 digs and setter Megan Welch had 35 assists.
